BubbleCAN Review: Fugget About It ‘You Only Try Haggis Once’

Spoilers Below

In this week’s episode, “You Only Try Haggis Once”, Scottish stereotype Angus MacTavish invites every Scot in the phonebook to join the Regina Highland Games – even the McDougals.

Much to Jimmy’s decline, McCool urges him to enroll so he’s not branded a coward by the Scottish Canadian Times.

Of course, McCool is more concerned about Jimmy’s photograph being published in the paper, prompting the ex-capo’s coworkers to easily locate him.

While competing in the games, every event reminds Jimmy of his old mafioso days – accompanied by a series of hilarious cutaways.

When Cookie is put to work in the kitchen, she gets a knack for cooking haggis.

When eccentric billionaire Richard Wheatthin (although Alan Thicke does not return to reprise the voice) makes an appearance at the fair, he proposes Cookie comes and cooks at his Scottish restaurant, Wee Wee Wheatthin’s.

At first, Jimmy encourages Cookie to start a new career, but when the puzzled patriarch can’t handle the pressures of playing Mr. mom, he has a sudden change of heart.

Perhaps the most dimensional episodes to date, all three acts play off of each other well, but they also stand alone well enough on their own.

Some of the biggest laughs come from the antics at the Scottish games, one of the most taboo being bestiality.
