English Dub Review: The Forsaken Saintess and her Foodie Roadtrip in Another World “Trout Fishing in Another World! ~With a Side of Hot Oni~”

Overview:

Rin receives an unexpected opportunity after fishing an adventurer out of a lake.

Our Take:

Holy crap, I had no idea how talented Kira Vincent-Davis is. She voices the main character, Rin Takanashi, and I recognized her voice right away. But here’s the thing: she had voiced some characters, and I hadn’t put it together that they were the same person. I knew her best from Akame ga Kill!, where she voices Seryu Ubiquitous, who’s completely insane. I wonder if she was in a similar situation to Aaron Dismuke, where she started young and her voice changed. She voiced a character in Martian Successor Nadesico that sounds nothing like some of her other characters. I haven’t heard her in too many lead roles, so finding all of this out has me excited for this season.

With this show, we have a sort of not-so-typical setup that also has some of the typical things we would find in an isekai show. Rin is summoned to another world along with a high school girl, and she is quickly told that her skill is worthless and teleported away. First of all, talk about rude. You teleport someone from their world to help you with something, and when she doesn’t have the skill you want, you teleport her away? They didn’t even send her back home! They sent her to a lake, and luckily for Rin, who happens to be the outdoorsy type, that’s perfect.

I don’t quite understand Rin’s skill as of yet, but from what I can tell, it allows her to summon a camper. Yeah, you read that right; she has a camper that is like the TARDIS from Doctor Who. It’s bigger on the inside, and the fridge inside keeps refilling its contents after they’ve been used. This might be the best skill; I don’t know what those other guys were talking about.

One funny thing in this episode was that Rin saved an Oni named Vil. While explaining his party, he mentions that they have an alchemist named Ed. If you’ve seen Fullmetal Alchemist, this might have perked your ears up. The way Rin imagines him is also similar to how Ed looks in that show. This Ed is a redhead and looks nothing like Ed Elric, but he might be like him; we’ll have to watch to find out. I’ve seen a lot of isekai, but this one seems fun and unique.
