English Dub Review: Skeleton Knight in Another World “The Nature of This World Floats Upon the Dragon Lord’s Spring”

Overview

Arc reaches the spring that could cure his skeletal nature, but first he’ll have to get past its guardian.

Our Take

Picking up from the previous episode, the story finally brings Arc and the group to the long-awaited hot spring, giving the episode a lighter and more comedic feel. The encounter with the Dragon Lord provides an entertaining opening before Arc gets the chance to temporarily regain his flesh, only for the effect to come with some unexpected complications. Seeing what Arc might actually look like underneath his armor leads to some amusing reactions from Ariane and Chiyome, while the awkward attempt to wake him adds another dose of comedy. Although the episode doesn’t move the main story forward very much, it offers a few fun character moments along the way.

That said, the rest of the proceedings felt somewhat like filler, especially after the previous stretch of the season. The pacing is noticeably rushed, with the hot spring storyline moving through several important developments without giving them much room to breathe. Some of the changes and omissions from the source material also make certain moments feel less natural than they could have been, but the episode remains enjoyable when it focuses on Arc, Ariane, and Chiyome. The brief glimpse of Arc with his original appearance is particularly fun, even if it was never likely to be a permanent change.

Overall, this is a fairly entertaining but ultimately lightweight episode. It doesn’t offer the strongest progression for the larger story, but the humor, character interactions, and mystery surrounding Arc’s unusual condition keep things engaging. After several episodes that felt more like setup, this detour to the hot spring may feel like filler, but at least it provides some amusing moments before the story presumably gets back to more important developments.
