English Dub Review: Mushoku Tensei “Celebrations”
Overview:
Rudeus attends Cliff and Elinalise’s wedding and goes shopping for his sisters’ birthday presents.
Our Take(Spoilers):
I wish this show didn’t make me cry as much as it does. Seeing people who were once broken, somehow beyond the odds pick up the pieces and make something of it will always get me. There’s a Japanese practice called “kintsugi” where you fix something that’s broken like a vase, by using a laquer mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. I’ve begun to love this practice because it shows that just because something is broken doesn’t mean it can’t become something beautiful in the end. I think Rudeus is right that if Paul were still alive he would be very proud of not only him but everyone in his family.
After attending Cliff and Elinalise’s wedding Rudeus decides that maybe his family could use some celebrations of their own. Not only were they not able to celebrate Aisha and Norn’s tenth birthday but Roxy seemed like she wanted a bit of a celebration for her marriage to Rudeus. Speaking of Elinalise, she came through for Rudeus by laying the groundwork with Sylphie and Roxy for a threesome. All we got was a cut to black but I think my boy got his wish, I wonder what that will be like when/if he gets a third wife.
I liked how Sylphie put things into perspective with adding Roxy to the family. She told Roxy that Rudeus being around her saved her life and Roxy did that for Rudeus. So denying those two happiness as well wouldn’t sit right with her. It wasn’t just Sylphie that began to accept Roxy into the family. Norn had an issue with Rudeus taking a second wife from the get go, but I wouldn’t say she disliked Roxy per se. She just cared a lot for Sylphie and thought this would hurt her. But after they spent some time fishing together I think it’s fair to say that she likes Roxy now.
As much as the ending credits focus on Eris you would think she’d be in the show more. I fully understand that the first two episodes almost exclusively followed her but still. Is it too much to ask for like five minutes of the episode to show what she’s up to? I love seeing Rudeus’s family dynamic come together but I can’t help but want to see more of the Mad Dog.
