English Dub Review: Hana-Kimi “It’s Fine, Right?”
Overview:
Julia’s worried that someone might find out that Mizuki is a girl. But then Sano’s words rock her to the core.
Our Take(Spoilers):
We might be heading towards some plot threads that are actually enjoyable. Now that Julia and Sano are on the same page, I think this could be something that is, I’m scared to say, fun to watch? There’s another wrinkle to this whole thing as well. For a second I thought that Nakatsu was going to overhear the two of them talking about Mizuki’s gender. Luckily, he’s such a bullheaded idiot that he charged in before Julia could finish her sentence, but that’s not the cool part. The part I enjoyed was when Julia came to see Sano a second day in a row and seemed out of sorts; Nakatsu gave her the food he had just bought. He clearly cares about her even though she annoys him. After this episode, I might be more interested and invested in their situation than the main one.
Speaking of Julia, she went through a lot in this episode. She not only had to deal with Nakatsu showing how caring he can be; if you recall, she seemed to have a minor crush on Umeda. Well, now she knows that he’s gay, so that got shot down for her. That wasn’t even all of it! She also found out that not only does Sano know that Mizuki is a girl, but when she asks him why he hasn’t revealed it yet, his answer blows her away. He tells her that he hasn’t revealed her secret to anyone because he loves her obviously.
That was more or less where that part of the episode ended. I truly hope that this doesn’t become one of those misunderstandings that is open to interpretation. If this ends up being one of those situations where Julia asks herself, “What does he mean? Does he mean he loves her as a friend?” I will lose my mind. This show is finally starting to get good in that department, so that will make me lose all hope, I think.
This aspect of the story might have to wait for a bit, though, because Sano’s brother has run away from home and came to visit. When Mizuki saw him, she chased after him, and it didn’t go very well. I don’t know what the story with Sano’s family is, but I think it’s going to be at the forefront in the next couple of episodes.
