DC Studios Unveils Red Band Trailer and Release Date for Anthony Bourdain’s ‘Get Jiro’ Animated Series

DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation have officially dropped the Red Band trailer for Get Jiro, the animated action adaptation based on the graphic novel co-created by the late celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain. The slice-and-dice adult animated series will make its television debut on October 3, 2026, at midnight on Adult Swim’s Toonami block, with episodes available to stream the next day on HBO Max.

Culinary Warfare in a Dystopian L.A.

First published by DC/Vertigo in 2012, Get Jiro was co-written by Bourdain and Joel Rose, featuring artwork by Langdon Foss and Alé Garza. The New York Times bestselling graphic novel presents a satire of food culture pushed to violent extremes.

Set in a near-future Los Angeles, the storyline envisions a city dominated by master chefs where reservations at top-tier restaurants are literally worth killing for. The plot follows Jiro, a reclusive sushi master caught in the middle of a brutal turf war between competing culinary factions, who begins executing a bloody recipe for revenge.

Voice Cast and Production Details

The series features a high-profile voice cast alongside an experienced creative team which includes a cast led by Brian Tee (Chicago Med) who stars as the titular sushi chef Jiro. He is joined by Titus Welliver (Bosch: Legacy), Alison Pill (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), and Justin Kirk (Weeds). The series was developed for animation by Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka (Superstore). Tanaka and Gatewood executive produce alongside Jordan Blum and Sam Register (outgoing President of Warner Bros. Animation).

The project, which was initially announced at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in 2024, kicks off its run with a two-episode premiere on Adult Swim before migrating to HBO Max for on-demand streaming.
