English Dub Review: Yowayowa Sensei “Communicating By Touch”
Overview:
How can Akihito convince a truant student to come to school?
Our Take(Spoilers):
Akihito helps Hiwamura try to get a truant student to come back to school. The student in question is called Yukishita. Akihito thinks that Yukishita is a boy at first, and this leads to him trying to fight fire with fire. You see, Yukishita has a groping problem in that they use it as an excuse to communicate by touch. In order to try to get them to stop this troublesome behavior, Akihito gropes Yukishita to see how they like it. This is when we learn that Yukishita is a girl, and now suddenly the groping is okay.
This is a common anime trope that honestly kind of bothers me. One of my favorite video game series has a huge problem with this. There are a couple of characters that do this groping thing, but because it’s a girl doing it to another girl, it’s played up for laughs. It’s somewhat similar when it’s men groping other men, but not quite the same. Look, I get it, this is an ecchi show, and I’m not trying to be a killjoy, but it was something that was made obvious by how Akihito reacted once he realized Yukishita’s gender.
Yukishita looks like an elementary school student, so that doesn’t help things either. But since she has this cute side that makes Mukubayashi interested in her and wants to spend time with her. This means the group that is helping Hiwamura has now added another member.
The thing I like most about Yukishita is her VA. Brittney Karbowski does the voice for her, and as you might have guessed, she is one of my favorites. I know that VAs can’t control what their characters are like, but this might be one of the first times I’ve been concerned about it. Let’s hope that it’s only a bad first impression for Yukishita, and I end up liking her by the end.
With Hiwamura being known as the “scary scary sensei,” it makes sense that people would want her to dress up as a ghost for the upcoming test of courage. But when she’s trying to rehab her image, it’s probably not the best idea. Akihito decides that he’s going to come up with a plan to make her a “cute” ghost or something to not freak people out. Can’t wait to see how that goes.
