English Dub Review: Yowayowa Sensei “A Weak and Wimpy School Camp”

Overview:

Surely there would be numerous opportunities for Hiwamura to grow closer to her students during a school camping trip. What could go wrong?

Our Take(Spoilers):

Abikura is a good guy, and like most good guys in a rom-com, he ended up in a situation that made him look not so good. Abikura was late to bath time and decided to take one all by himself. Only Hiwamura, Mizuki, and Yukishita thought it was their time to bathe. This led to Abikura having to hide, and we got to see a whole lot of bare boobs. I thought this situation was going to go a little differently because Hiwamura noticed that Abikura was there, and instead of freaking out, she said she would try to help him sneak out.

I get that this is a comedy and my suggestion isn’t going to win any laughs, but here I go. Why couldn’t Hiwamura, as the adult in the situation, say to the other girls, “Abikura made a mistake and came in here by accident, please cover yourselves so he can leave.” I understand that the whole theme of this show is that Hiwamura is bad at voicing things, but that’s why I think that would be such a powerful moment. Instead, we got a gag that we’ve seen a thousand times.

Hiwamura made strides in other places. She put a lot of time and effort into making scary props for the test of courage. Unfortunately, a storm rolled in, and the group was forced to cancel the test of courage until Abikura gets everyone to come together and run the event on a floor of the building they’re in. Once it was known that Hiwamura put all the work in for the props, it endeared her a little more to the students.

Hiwamura wanted to thank Abikura, and so they went out to talk. During this talk was when Abikura did something I didn’t expect. He told Hiwamura that he liked her. He meant it in a romantic sense, and Hiwamura, being who she is, didn’t quite catch on to that.

I liked that Abikura specified to the audience that he meant it romantically because I was starting to wonder if he liked her in that way. Now that there’s some glimmer of romance, I know that I’ll be invested a little more in this show going forward.
