English Dub Review: Wistoria: Wand and Sword “A Story of a Dream with No End”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

Elfaria and Zeo’s fierce battle over Will remains undecided even after an exchange of their most powerful spells, leaving the ceremonial hall in ruins.  Aaron, Masterias Noah, intervenes with a way to settle the matter.  And so the Second Bloom comes to an end.  When the celebratory party is in full swing, Workner shows Will outside to meet a certain female student.

Our Take:

In the previous episode, I said I unintentionally spoiled the ending for myself about which faction Will is joining.  Well, now that we have reached this point, I can finally state that Zeo was the clear winner in this decisive battle.  How, you may ask?  By a game of “Rock, Paper, Scissors” as a tie-breaker.  No, really.  A child’s game is what determines who gets custody of Will.  Even with the show’s usual magic fantasy elements, Wistoria sure knows how to incorporate some unexpected humor into the mix, especially when Elfaria becomes a sore loser.  But man, Kelsey Cruz sure knows how to balance her emotional range with genuine amusement in her performance as Elfaria.

So the second season doesn’t conclude in a way we expected, but given Elfaria’s eagerness to be with Will, it might be for the best.  But at least they got to see each other in private beforehand, so that’s good.  Outside the action scenes, the character moments in Wistoria never fail to inject heart into its presentation and humor, and the meeting between Will and Elfaria is no exception.  Additionally, it allows the series to continue its concept of Will’s goal of keeping his promise to his childhood friend, just with him ascending to the tower, with season three already being confirmed.  However, due to a possible mole within one of the factions, Will’s journey will once again hit a few more snags that will test his determination, trust, and new magic.  With that said, bring on season three!
