English Dub Review: Petals Of Reincarnation “All Begins And Ends At The Seed”

Petals of Reincarnation recently dropped its latest episode, “All Begins and Ends at the Seed.” In it, tensions rise between two characters as the Returners realizes a powerful, and possibly dangerous, connection between them all.

When the story last ended, Ein was shown to have survived, as the Returners suspected the recent declaration of war would be used as a call by their more neutral numbers to reveal themselves. Ein is brought to the base, as Touya slowly enters the role of a leader, even being appointed by his allies.

In his first test as a leader, Touya is presented with a new theory, thanks to clues left by Nostradamus: the Branches of Reincarnation come from a singular source. The new AI Neumann even admits that it never crossed her mind that someone was creating these Branches and sending them out. This means that a “seed” could exist, bringing about these ongoing cycles of reincarnation. More to the point, if it is destroyed, then the Returners will come to an end.

It appears the next goal is to find Rogue Returners and take their branches. This can be used to help pinpoint the alleged “Seed.” Unfortunately, Touya’s support for the plan upsets Haitou, causing her to escape the base. Soon, she will encounter another mysterious figure, going by Alan Smithee. To those who don’t get the reference, the faceless man’s name is a famous alias used by directors wanting to remain anonymous. Meanwhile, Nightingale learns that Ein is still alive and plans out her next attack.

Touya and Haitou’s relationship seemed like it was being set up as the main focus of the story, so this recent conflict starts to add development to their story. In addition, the fact that there are more than one “Einsteins” brings up one possibility: that some of the other Returners could also be making a return somehow. Overall, the episode will leave many viewers wondering what could happen next, especially concerning what Alan Smithee will bring to the story.
