English Dub Review: Snowball Earth “Mishima Mall Activates”

Overview:

The attack on Mishima Mall begins, but the people of the mall aren’t as helpless as they seem.

Our Take(Spoilers):

When Vierde attacks the mall, it seems like they’re going to steamroll it. But it turns out that the folks who live here have some tricks up their sleeve. They have shields to protect from attack, but they also have missile launchers and machine guns to fight back. But all these weapons might not be enough to fight back against kaiju. What it did do was manage to buy enough time for Aoi to get back to pilot her kaiju.

Speaking of Aoi, I didn’t realize that it seems like she has powers of her own since she’s bonded with the kaiju. She was running a lot faster than normal, and her hair seemed to be made of fire. Aoi is dripping with main character energy, which makes it all the more surprising that she isn’t the MC. Tetsuo is, and with Yukio being beaten to hell, he’s tasked with making sure the evacuation goes well. I thought it was really cool to see the main character take on more of a support role while a secondary character gets some time in the spotlight. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure Tetsuo will be key to fending off this assault at the end of the day, but it was still cool to see other characters get some shine.
