Thunder Buddies for Life: ‘Ted’ Season 2 Smashes Streaming Records on Peacock
It turns out the world hasn’t grown tired of a foul-mouthed teddy bear just yet. According to latest data from Nielsen and internal figures from Peacock, Seth MacFarlane’s Ted Season 2 has officially reclaimed its throne as the platform’s heavy hitter, charting as the Top Streaming Comedy in the U.S. with over 1 billion minutes viewed in a single week.
The second season, which premiered on March 5, 2026, has managed the rare feat of surpassing the massive viewership of its debut season, proving that MacFarlane’s Fuzzy Door production banner still has a golden touch when it comes to R-rated nostalgia.
By the Numbers: A Peacock Powerhouse
The viewership stats released this week paint a picture of a rare streaming success story in a crowded marketplace:
-
1 Billion+ Minutes: Ted joined the elite “Billion Club,” outperforming several major licensed sitcoms and rival original comedies.
-
#1 on Peacock: The series remains the most-watched original title on the service since its Season 2 launch.
-
Global Reach: Internationally, the series has cracked the Top 10 on Max (HBO) and dominated the Apple TV charts in Canada and the U.S.
Why It’s Resonating
While many film-to-TV adaptations stumble, Ted has found a sweet spot by leaning into the 1990s prequel setting. Critics have noted that Season 2 feels even more confident than the first, with particular praise for the “Fraudcast News” season finale, which currently sits at a staggering 9.2 rating on IMDb—the highest in the franchise’s history.
The season balanced its signature raunch with surprisingly high-concept episodes, including a much-discussed Dungeons & Dragons episode featuring Brennan Lee Mulligan as the Dungeon Master, and a storyline where the Bennett family navigates the financial hardships of 1994 Framingham.
The Future of the Bear
Despite the record-breaking numbers, the future of the show remains a bit of a “cliff-hanger” in its own right. In recent interviews, Seth MacFarlane has been candid about the exhausting nature of the production, noting that the CGI for the bear is both expensive and time-consuming.
“As of now, there are no direct plans [for Season 3],” MacFarlane told reporters during the Season 2 press tour. “We want to make sure if we do more, we have enough gas in the tank to keep the quality this high.”
Given the massive viewership and the fact that Ted is currently the highest-rated entry in the entire franchise (beating both films on Rotten Tomatoes), it’s hard to imagine Peacock letting their star player stay on the shelf for long.
