Nine Lives, No Plan: Prime Video Drops Trailer for Aubrey Plaza’s New Animated Series ‘Kevin’

Prime Video has shifted the spotlight to its own animation slate, releasing the official trailer and an expansive guest cast list for Kevin. The adult animated comedy, co-created and executive produced by Aubrey Plaza and Joe Wengert (Big Mouth), is set to premiere all eight episodes of its first season on April 20, 2026.

Produced by Titmouse, Evil Hag Productions, and Amazon MGM Studios, the series marks a unique entry into the adult animation space with a tone Plaza describes as “cozy” yet “very New York,” drawing comparisons to an indie-style Golden Girls.

The Story: A Feline Mid-Life Crisis

Loosely inspired by a real-life breakup, the series follows Kevin, a housecat who finds himself in the middle of a messy split between his human “owners.” In a bold move for a domestic pet, Kevin decides to “break up” with his humans entirely.

He relocates to a local pet rescue in Astoria, Queens, called Furrever Friends. There, he joins a chaotic band of misfit animals who help him navigate his newfound independence and figure out what he truly wants out of his nine lives.

The Cast: An Ensemble of Icons and Rising Stars

The series features a powerhouse lineup of series regulars:

  • Jason Schwartzman stars as the voice of Kevin, the housecat seeking a fresh start.

  • Aubrey Plaza voices Dana, one half of the human couple Kevin leaves behind.

  • Whoopi Goldberg as Cupcake and John Waters as Armando, Kevin’s new roommates at the rescue.

  • Aparna Nancherla as Judy, another feline resident of Furrever Friends.

  • Gil Ozeri as Seth (the rescue’s human operator) and Amy Sedaris as his dog, Brandi.

The “Enormous” Guest List

Alongside the trailer, Prime Video revealed a massive list of guest stars lending their voices to the first season. The roster includes a mix of Hollywood veterans and digital stars:

  • Joe Locke (Heartstopper) and Addison Rae (Thanksgiving)

  • Patti LuPone, Quinta Brunson, and Charles Melton

  • Cary Elwes, Tig Notaro, Nicole Byer, and Eugene Cordero

  • Maria Bamford, Mike Mitchell, and Jim O’Heir

A Different Kind of Animation

While much of modern adult animation leans into high-speed, manic energy, Plaza has noted that Kevin deliberately aims for a different pace. “I think most animation these days is so fast and crazy, but ours has a different tone I’m really excited about,” she shared. With the veteran animation studio Titmouse (The Legend of Vox Machina, Big Mouth) at the helm of the visuals, the series promises a distinct aesthetic to match its Astoria-set “feline indie” vibe.

Kevin arrives on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories on Monday, April 20.
