English Dub Review: An Adventurer’s Daily Grind at Age 29 “The Power of Charm”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Rirui awakens to a new succubus power, but it has unexpected and troublesome side effects…

Our Take:
Even though Rirui continues her strive to be an adventurer, her growth as a succubus still lingers inside, thanks to her new ability.  That power is known as the “Mystic Eye”, which can charm men, according to Veronica.  But, of course, like Rirui’s other skills she learned, this “charm” spell isn’t without its setbacks that could put her friends and even herself in danger.  This is evident through her “Mystic Eye” ability, which is attracting more than just men, even while asleep, creating a monster-sized problem that not even Hajime’s weapon can fix.  But, at the very least, Hajime and Rirui got to have some fun at the Deer God festival before the final problem of the season rains on their parade.
“The Power of Charm” seems to be copying an arc shown in “A Resident of the Village” and “After the Battle”, in which Hajime deals with Rirui’s guilt of causing more problems than she solves.  With the monsters being attracted by Rirui’s Mystic Eye, it’s possible that Rirui would end up blaming herself for the cause that’s beyond her control.  When you’re an adventurer, chances are you’ll run into situations like this, further showcasing that Rirui’s dream isn’t as easy to accomplish as it seems.  At least you’re not someone like Hajime, who continues to screw himself over with his obliviousness when it comes to charming the ladies himself.  Even in that situation, it offers a valuable lesson in the importance of real love over forced love, a lesson worth learning before next week’s season finale.
