English Dub Review: Dark Moon: The Blood Altar “Misty Moon – The Black Mist of Railgun”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Having regained their memories from their past lives, the boys head to the Vanfield House.
Our Take:
With the boys’ true origins revealed, the anime has officially shifted from its typical teen romance narrative, as they discover they’re not just handsome, vampiric teens. Instead, they turned out to be handsome vampiric lords, with Sooha resembling the princess in distress. While I wouldn’t mind enduring another high school love triangle, this unexpected reveal left me intrigued about the show’s final few episodes, particularly the boys’ rescue mission to save Sooha from Dardan. The first part of their quest has Heli and the crew heading back to their “home”, the Vanfield House, where they must retrieve a mystic scroll that contains information about the Blood of Vargr. However, the stolen scroll sends them to a pub known as Railgun, where they’re forced to confront an army of feral vampires in a mist-covered basement.
In addition to the boys’ first phase of the rescue mission, the episode delves into Dardan’s vampiric origins and his plan to steal Sooha’s power during a full moon ritual. While his vampiric transformation felt a bit rushed, the moments involving the “first vampire” showcased more of what he might be capable of. Of course, I’m not just talking about his thirst for power. The episode also features Kahn and the Sunshine City crew performing a rescue mission of their own, saving their werewolf brethren captured by the vampire army. At first, I thought this segment was used as a side-quest filler that doesn’t serve a purpose to the overall plot. However, it turns out their own dilemma may have been connected to the Vargr history after all, particularly Kahn’s discovery that he had been chosen by Vargr himself. We’ll see how all of this ties together in the upcoming showdown against Dardan.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
