English Dub Review: Chained Soldier “Commanders’ Meeting”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
The 7th Squad may have settled into a new normal, but trouble soon follows when the commanders hold a meeting.
Our Take:
Chained Soldier is undoubtedly another anime you shouldn’t watch while your parents are present, especially considering its risqué and seductive team of female soldiers. But I found myself completely surprised by how entertaining the premise is, even if it’s not groundbreaking regarding the genre. Maybe it’s the fact that Yuuki gets rewarded through intimacy, or the action was respectfully balanced with its sex comedy. Either way, it’s another anime that I wouldn’t mind seeing more of, which happens to be right now.
In addition to its upgrade in presentation courtesy of Passione and Hayabusa Film, the second season of Chained Soldier kicks off with everyone’s favorite time of the day. That’s right. I’m talking about a super important meeting between the commanders of the Demon Defense Force to discuss the next step of their battle against the Eight Thunder Gods and the Shuuki. Don’t worry. This is a far more interesting meeting than our ordinary ones, especially when the show delves deeper into the Defense Force through its commanders. The most notable one who would play a role in the season is Supreme Commander Ren Yamashiro, whose “Lord of the Cosmos” ability makes her a formidable member of the overall Defense Force. However, she could also pose a threat to Kyouka’s quest to become a Supreme Commander herself, as well as to her bond with Yuuki.
Unsurprisingly, “Commanders’ Meeting” starts the new season on the right path by utilizing the similar ingredients seen in season one. In addition to reintroducing its world-building and characters, the episode introduces the show’s new commanders in a fun, occasionally seductive way. While the one particular action toward 3rd Squad commander, Bell Tsukiyono, seemed a bit much given her age, the episode’s sex humor once again struck a fine balance between humorous and awkward. Plus, the animation by Passione and Hayabusa Film was solid in replicating the presentation produced by Seven Arcs in season one. In short, I’d consider myself impressed with how the new season has started so far.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
