OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)Yoi still finds herself unsure what to do about Kohaku’s advances and her feelings about him, though a chance moment in the rain gives them a chance to get to know each other better.OUR TAKEAlright, we got a couple who are willing to cut through the bullshit and just go out by the end of the second episode! I mean, that’s not necessarily rare, I just finished covering a show where the couple basically get engaged by the third episode, which I doubt is going to be the case here, but I also recently finished covering a few where the couple didn’t get together until near or at the end of the series. Basically, this is a refreshing quickening of pace for me, and I have often said that the more potentially interesting stuff in a romance happens AFTER the designated couple is already dating, so hey, glad to see that’s what we’ll be getting for the remainder of this series. Yoi kind of goes through a speedrun of all of the flustery feelings of attraction through this and last episode; seeing someone she likes, realizing they like her, denying it and thinking that they probably treat everyone that way, getting to know them more and realize they’re actually a good person and treating them specially, and finally just taking them up on their offer to go out. She’s someone who is to the point and ready to try this out, which is a good sign for what’s to come.Meanwhile, there’s Kohaku, who I was actually getting a bit worried that we would only see from Yoi’s perspective as this sudden mysterious and attractive presence in her life, but to my pleasant surprise, we do get scenes of just him and his friends to get his own perspective on how this is playing out. And yeah, he clearly likes Yoi in a genuine way, to the point that even his friends are a bit shocked he isn’t going for the apparently multiple more typical and conventionally pretty girls that are dogging him for the time of day. He’s not duplicitous or manipulative or any of the bad stuff, in fact he seems like a pretty stand up guy. I’m sure we’ll find out some noticeable flaws between him and Yoi across this series, but probably nothing that’s all that damning, just regular teenage stuff. So yeah, I think I have higher hopes for this show now than I did last week. This is still not something I would seek out myself, but I think I’m in for a pretty good ride of talking about it in the weeks ahead.
