Review: Universal Basic Guys “Spectrum Slam”
Overview
Mark trains to win a charity basketball tournament; David tries to find a teammate.
Our Take
Spectrum Slam is the name of a charity basketball tournament that raises money for charity. Just like in every competition episode of UBG, Steve and Mark are on opposing sides where the winner gets a spot on the plaque. David finds a teammate also but gets destroyed but Mark opts for the highly questionable route in trying to get the win.
Family Guy did a lot of this bit when Peter went into the woods and became feral and we’ve seen a lot of competitions out of UBG already. That said Mark Sheard shines from the director’s chair in a number of scenes both in the woods and when Mark’s in a lucid state. The twist at the end has been done a bunch of times as well but overall we get a decent week of Universal Basic Guys even if not revolutionary.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
