English Dub Review: Tales of Wedding Rings “Episode 18”

Overview (Spoilers Below): Hime learns to use light magic while Nefritis and Granart also train at the Spire.  Satou tours the empire.

Our Take: Satou and the Ring Maidens have found themselves in another predicament that makes their arrival more than a one-night stay.  Fortunately, that hasn’t stopped Hime and the others from continuing to master their magic.  As Satou, Alabaster, and the others stay in the Empire to plan their next move, Hime, Morion, Nefrites, and Granart head to the Magecraft Spire to harness their own magic.  Of course, the one princess who needs more training than anyone is Hime, who strives to harness her Light magic to fight alongside her husband.  However, considering the lack of Light magic teachers at the Spire, her special training is far from a walk in the park.  That is, until she met a mysterious Spire student who claimed to have researched this powerful magic. With this approach, the show puts more focus on some of the Ring Maidens other than Satou, particularly Hime.  In addition to learning the secret behind her Light magic, Hime has a surprising family reunion with her great-aunt, Professor Perlee, who used to teach her mother, prompting the Light princess to master the magic as her mother did.  However, she’s not the only princess receiving the family-reunion treatment, as Granart also reunites with her mother, Rubyn, though not in a way we anticipated, despite the humorous intent.  Considering that most episodes focus on the characters as a single group, the show’s eighteenth episode takes a respectable approach by giving the spotlight to the specific princesses, especially Satou’s wife.
