English Dub Review: Disney Twisted-Wonderland the Animation “To the Enchanted Mine”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

Ace and Deuce must find a magestone, or they will be expelled from school.

Our Take:

It turns out that Yu’s first day as the school’s errand boy is just as problematic as his first day in the new world.  Following an incident that resulted in property damage, the Headmage tasks Yu, Ace, and Deuce, along with Grim, to recover a magestone from the enchanted mine.  Their quest leads them to another piece of Disney nostalgia in the form of the dwarves’ cottage, reminiscent of the one in Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.  This once again continues the show’s tradition of incorporating everything Disney-related into the realm of isekai.  However, don’t expect a cameo appearance from one of the dwarves since this land is more exclusive to the Disney villains.

Of course, since this is a magic school after all, it is far from an easy task to accomplish.  In addition to Ace and Deuce’s constant bickering, the group finds themselves confronting a dwarf-like creature that’s guarding the magestone.  Regarding its monstrous appearance, it’s no wonder the dwarves haven’t mentioned this guy in the 1937 animated classic.  Despite Ace and Deuce’s bickering being a tad annoying, “To the Enchanted Mine” continues the show’s attempt to impress me with its refreshing concept, Easter eggs, and presentation, primarily through its message involving teamwork.  The CGI used for the monster was a bit concerning at first, given the style’s track record, but it actually blended well with the 2D animation once I got used to it.  With the group safe from expulsion and Grim finally realizing his dream, there’s no doubt we’ll be uncovering more Disney magic in this twisted academy.
