English Dub Review: A Star Brighter Than the Sun “Brains, Heart, and Courage”
Overview
One day, Sae takes a day off from school. The next day, Kamishiro gets injured during club practice and also takes a day off. As they lend each other their notebooks to catch up on missed classes, they begin exchanging messages. A small incident leads Kamishiro to realize that Sae likes someone. Unaware of Sae’s true feelings, he encourages her to go for it.
Our Take
This time around, we get an episode that puts focus on the growing bond between Sae and Kamishiro, highlighting their playful interactions and subtle emotional connection. As the class prepares for an English play of “The Wizard of OZ”, they shared moments like practicing lines and helping each other showcase their personalities, determination, and support for one another. Characters like Mio, Ayukawa, and Kouki add humor, guidance, and gentle rivalry, enriching the school environment without overshadowing the central duo.
The rest of the episode’s proceedings balance lighthearted comedy with heartfelt character moments. Kamishiro’s thoughtfulness and Sae’s determination to understand her feelings create a warm, engaging dynamic, while small touches such as teasing from Kamishiro’s mother keep the story charming and relatable. Their interactions feel genuine, emphasizing friendship, care, and subtle hints of romantic tension.
Overall, this episode was a charming and engaging installment that deepens Sae and Kamishiro’s relationship while preserving the series’ light, comforting tone. If there’s anything I took issue with in this particular episode, it’d be the fact that I had to turn on the subtitles for certain scenes involving a notebook and certain text messages, as none of it was in English. Through playful misunderstandings, heartfelt moments, and gentle romantic tension, the episode balances warmth, humor, and emotion, making it a quietly endearing shoujo story that captures both the excitement and the ache of love on the verge of confession.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
