English Dub Review: Call of the Night “8th Night: You’re the first, Senpai.”

Overview:

What began as Kyouko and Nazuna’s investigation into a supposed affair led to a life-changing event that altered their relationship forever.

Our Take(Spoilers):

Before I dive into the spoiler story bits I wanted to mention that I heard a voice actor I don’t normally hear in Sentai dubs. Ian Sinclair played Kyouko’s dad and while he won’t be in the series any longer I loved getting to hear him in a place that I wasn’t expecting.

You might be wondering “why won’t we hear him anymore?” well that’s because Kyouko had to kill him. We were wondering what led her down the path of vampire hunting detective and now we know. Some vampire (I’m going to guess who he was having the affair with) turned him and he didn’t realize. He ended up killing his wife and almost killed Kyouko but she realized the lighter she gifted him was his weakness.

I probably wouldn’t want to be a vampire anymore if I dealt with something like that. But she knows that Nazuna wasn’t the one who did it. The reason things like this bug me in a story like this is hating an entire species because of one. I know as a human I wouldn’t want to be judged because of the worst humans in history. If she wanted to kill the one who turned her dad and ruined her life I understand for sure. But not wanting to wipe out all vampires. This conflict will be very interesting for the remainder of the season since it seems that Kyouko has decided to confront Nazuna directly.
