Overview:
Love is messy and doesn’t work in real life like it does in anime. When Okumura overhears a heartfelt conversation, he worries what it means for the future.
Our Take:
It wouldn’t be an anime if someone didn’t overhear a confession they weren’t supposed to overhear. Usually, it would annoy me when something like this happens and then no progress is made on the romantic front. But in this case I like how it wasn’t only Okumura that overheard but his teacher, Mayuri as well. She decides to have a talk with Okumura and it led to a heartfelt conversation that I believe created some character growth for Okumura.
He began to ask questions that I think are understandable for him to be worried about. What happens to the group if Mikarin decides to ask Okumura out and he says no? After all, he doesn’t see her that way (dumb as he is) and never has. But he did reach a realization that I think is important. Since his traumatic dumping by a girl when he was younger, he never thought that anyone would ever see him in a romantic light. What I like about this is that at least his obliviousness to the girl’s affections is explained with this. I’m sad this season is over, but I’m glad it’s getting a second season because I’m intrigued to see how these characters grow.
