English Dub Review: With You and the Rain “A River That Cannot Be Crossed”
Overview
Fuji reaches out to Ren for support as she struggles with writer’s block…
Our Take
Fuji’s latest dilemma highlighted the creative challenges she faces as she takes on a new screenwriting job, showing both her love for books and the difficulty of turning that passion into a profession. Stress eating, long walks, and moments with her tanuki Yu offered small but meaningful ways she coped with the pressure, while support from Ren brought in a mix of humor and warmth. From funny details like a pet crashing a Zoom call to food-filled outings that spiraled into more indulgence, the slice-of-life tone stayed light and relatable.
The rest of the proceedings leaned heavily into its relaxing atmosphere, balancing silly gags with heartfelt moments. Yu’s antics, Ren’s teasing, and Fuji’s own self-deprecating struggles gave the story a down-to-earth quality, while touches like cultural references, scenic walks, and a Black Forest cake cameo added charm. Beneath the comedy, though, the writing subtly explored how difficult it can be to find inspiration and maintain balance when your passion becomes your work, a theme that resonated strongly.
Overall, this was one of the season’s most relatable and comforting installments, capturing the challenges of stress, writer’s block, and self-doubt while balancing them with humor and cozy everyday moments. Without spoiling anything, it’s an episode that reminds viewers why Fuji feels so real as a character and why her bond with Yu and Ren is such a steady source of comfort. It may not shake up the larger narrative, but it succeeds in being funny, heartfelt, and quietly inspiring — another relaxing entry that leaves you looking forward to what’s next.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
