OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)Teru and Akane visit a local shrine for leads, while Nene finds herself in a strange place.OUR TAKEThe investigation for ways to undo the spiritual severance continues as we move ever close to the end of the season! Last time we saw Kou get wrapped up in Tsukasa’s weird cursed house, but now we look over to what the other parties are doing. Teru brings Akane to a shrine that apparently works begrudgingly with exorcists, where they learn from first hand experience that Amane and Tsukasa’s family eventually died within that house, and that Tsukasa was clearly not well prior to that. Still, putting that aside, it’s interesting to see Teru acting like a normal guy with flaws instead of the impenetrable exorcist with no hobbies that we’ve seen him be for the majority of the series thus far. He was so focused on looking perfect when there were apparitions to deal with, even when there were ones that were clearly just friendly like Hanako, but suddenly with that purpose and structure gone, he has all of this room for this personality to show through for once. Makes me wonder if, assuming all of this goes well and apparitions are able to re-enter the living world and the status quo is restored, if he’ll be able to go back to this facade or have to continue being more genuine.Meanwhile, last time we saw Nene in the previous episode, she was being nabbed by some weird tentacles within the house. Now we finally see where she ended up, which is apparently some cavern with water in it, populated by a bunch of vengeful spirits. Well, we soon learn that this is where the sacrifices from the ritual end up and all of those spirits were actually sacrifices for the ritual that Sumire and Aoi ended up being used for, and we get this information from the sole male sacrifice, a young man named Katakuri, who apparently got picked once they used up all the young girls. Hooray for equal opportunity ritual sacrifice! Well, it seems Tsukasa was also a sacrifice but then made his way back somehow, so Katakuri helps Nene find her way back. He also helps nudge Nene towards understanding she probably has a crush on Hanako. And hey, they finally brought back that whole “if I’m in water I turn into a fish” curse to be useful for once! So now she’s back with Kou and the little Tsukasa, so maybe we’ll get to the bottom of all of this next time!
