OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)While Ryo researches ways to combat Akuma, a great threat begins to emerge from the local dungeon.OUR TAKEWe follow up last week’s episode, which introduced the supposedly major threat of the Akuma with…an episode with very clashing tones, it would seem. Ryo goes off to learn more about what to do against Akuma and comes across Sera, the only Elf in town who already seemed to take a liking to him when they briefly met a couple episodes ago on the street. Now they get to meet again and…they continue to be downright pleasant with each other. I dare say this may be the makings of a love interest, if I had any idea what the basis for the attraction was other than they both seem kinda nice to each other. And also for some reason, Ryo cannot be open about the fact that he’s looking into things about Akuma, despite the fact that one attacked and almost killed a bunch of people last episode, so this seems like a pretty big deal that those in charge should at least be aware of going on. But okay, Ryo’s the protagonist, I guess he ostensibly knows what he’s doing. Plus, it’s not like there’s anything else big going on that would need his attention or manpower, especially since he is easily one of the strongest adventurers in this town at the moment, right?Well, turns out there IS kind of a big thing going on: the titular Tidal Bore of the episode, which it turns out is just a sudden onslaught of goblin warriors of all shapes and sizes. As the episode goes on, it seems this is less of a “end of days, we’re all doomed” kind of situation and more of just something that happens every now and then that requires a lot of effort to deal with in the moment, like changing the batteries on your smoke detector. So, I suppose it’s a bit more excusable that Ryo isn’t a part of the battle, and it gives us a chance to see other adventurers like Abel show off their stuff without Ryo hogging the spotlight. I just wish it looked better though, because this is easily the worst animated the series has been since it started. Thankfully the threat is dealt with and peace is restored, and I guess they’ll just catch Ryo up on everything later. Also, we’re only one episode behind the subtitled version when usually we’re behind two, meaning there may end up being a delay in the dub release at some point soon. So if you’re looking forward to more of these…maybe keep an eye out for that.
