Overview

The fan-favorite parody series delivers a half-hour of rapid-fire sketches that spotlight Discovery, Food Network, and TLC. In “Robot Chicken: Self-Discovery Special,” the ever-awkward Robot Chicken Nerd embarks on a journey of self-discovery the American way—by going on reality TV… or end up as Shark Week chum?

Our Take

Ever get annoyed about the fact that you just want to sit in silence and watch Robot Chicken on Adult Swim only to have your girlfriend grab your remote and demand that you watch 90 Day Fiance? Welp, you’re in luck for two reasons: 1) you’re still watching cable which puts YOU in the minority and 2) check out the Robot Chicken: Self-Discovery Special.

Produced by the guys that used to make quarter-hours of Robot Chicken, Robot Chicken: Self-Discovery Special takes a number of popular WB Discovery (and one TLC series) and put them in the Stoopid Buddy Stoodios laboratory for a send-up for the ages. Guy Fieri(and it’s really him!), Ghost Adventures, Shark Week, and more all get the Robot Chicken treatment complete with all of the stop-motion puss, blood, guts, and more that you can handle.

The result is a laugh-out-loud sketch-fest that helps you remember a time when things were a lot simpler like when you could turn on cable TV, hope you stay up past your bedtime to watch Robot Chicken, then pass out from whatever number of chicken wings you just ate before. Speaking of wings, here’s hoping this isn’t the only serving of Robot Chicken we get for quite some time because if this special showed nothing else it’s that this franchise still has legs and there’s really no excuse why we can’t get a couple of these a year.
