English Dub Season Review: The Apothecary Diaries Season Two

Overview:

The second season of The Apothecary Diaries sees Maomao embroiled in political conspiracies. Her relationship with Jinshi changes after some revelations she would rather not know.

Our Take:

One of the first things I want to praise about this show is the voice work of Emi Lo and Kaiji Tang, who voice Maomao and Jinshi. They do such a fantastic job, and when the two characters are on-screen together, they help make the chemistry that much more enjoyable.

One thing The Apothecary Diaries does better than any other new show is that I can’t think of a single episode of this series that has been bad. Bad things have happened, but I’ve enjoyed almost every episode. The characters are awesome, and while there is an overarching plot this season, it’s nice getting the oneshot episodes as well. It’s also nice that we were halfway through the season when we got a third season announcement. This show has been a hit, and what’s surprising about that is it’s not a shonen anime. Hopefully, this shows anime studios that we want more content like this.

Not to point out the obvious, but if you haven’t seen the first season, I highly recommend starting there. You could do some reading on it, I suppose, but this anime is so good that I think you will enjoy season one as well. Yes, season two is better, but season one had to be good to get a second season, right?

If you’re an anime fan, a history fan, or love great animation and characters, do yourself a favor and watch this show! There’s a lot of trash anime out there, but The Apothecary Diaries shows that this medium can still hit it out of the park if given the chance. Make sure you don’t miss out on one of the best shows of the season.
