Overview:
Kafka’s fate is decided.
Our Take:
I’m not surprised that Kaiju No. 8 would have some Godzilla references. I was excited that it felt like a huge loveletter to Shin Godzilla specifically with the kaiju being fought in the episode having a lot of similar features to that particular iteration of Big G. One other thing I noticed was a lot of the music used in this episode had a similar feel to the main them of Godzilla.
References aside I was looking forward to getting to this point of the anime because one of my favorite characters is introduced, Gen Narumi. I don’t have any specific reasons on why I love him other than the fact that he’s cool. I was wondering who they would get to voice him in the anime and I couldn’t be happier with their choice. Aaron Dismuke is a great VA and I remember thinking that he would e perfect for the character.
Unlike Tougen Anki I feel like Kaiju No. 8 has enough changes to the shonen formula to set it apart from others. The main thing being that our protagonist, Kafka, is a man in his thirties and not a high-schooler. I have a feeling I might be comparing the two shows fairly often as the season progresses.
