OverviewBased on the Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kei Urana, the story follows Rudo, a bullied outcast in a dystopian future, who finds respite in repurposing trash. However, a tragedy changes his life forever…Our Take In a dystopian world suspended above a forsaken surface, society is sharply divided between the privileged and the discarded, a bullied outcast in a dystopian future, who finds respite in repurposing trash. However, the upper-class, wrapped in immaculate white, live behind fortified walls while the outcasts scrape by in massive slums built on society’s waste. One of these outcasts is Rudo, a boy who survives by scavenging and repairing luxury goods the upper class throws away which is an act forbidden by law. Though labeled and shunned for his father’s mysterious past, Rudo still finds solace in the few meaningful relationships he has. Of course, the story doesn’t truly pick up until tragedy strikes, setting Rudo on a new path filled with betrayal, injustice, and the burden of survival in a world that offers no mercy to those at the bottom…Overall, this premiere delivers a bold introduction to a bleak world full of moral rot and class division, anchored by an emotionally charged inciting incident. While some viewers may find its pacing a bit rushed or its premise giving off Deadman Wonderland vibes with its first episode. At the very least, the strong worldbuilding and distinct art direction lay intriguing groundwork for what could become a gripping revenge-driven story. If the narrative continues to explore its heavier themes with care, this could shape up to be a standout franchise in its own right.
