English Dub Review: Lazarus “Death on Two Legs”

By David Kaldor

June 02, 2025

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)With only ten days remaining until the first deaths, Lazarus’ reason for existence is called into question by the government, only for Skinner to make a sudden announcement.OUR TAKEWe’re on our way to the climax of Lazarus with only four episodes to go and only ten episodes left in-story for the Lazarus team to solve the mystery before bodies start dropping. Except, as we see in the beginning of this week’s episode, it looks like that’s already started, as we are introduced to an assassin named Soryu who walks through a bunch of pandemonium as a shooter mows down swathes of people before being gunned down by the police. While this doesn’t really show off much about Soryu other than him being pretty unflappable in tense situations, we get to see more of his capabilities as he is tested with taking down a whole special forces team to prove his worth to a group that wants to assassinate Axel. So, at least we don’t have to worry about the final four episodes being just more of the same mystery and can expect some gun fights, as well as Axel, the most combat proficient member of the team, getting a big brawl in. And since this whole story is partially about death, there is a chance he could pull a Spike Spiegel and go out in a super badass way. While all of that is getting set up though, this episode is also about having the Lazarus team basically having their progress audited since…well, they haven’t made a ton of progress finding Skinner, and conversely they’ve left a lot of destruction and chaos in their wake as they’ve gone on their search, as the council shows while they go through what the group has been up to since the show started. And to my surprise, one of the team joins in to testify about what’s been happening and…it’s Leland, one of the characters that’s gone mostly undeveloped as the show has gone on. So, with it being clear that their shenanigans have gone too far, the guys in charge get ready to pull the plug on the operation, only for Skinner to show up with a new message, letting everyone know that he’ll be the first to die if no one can find him and get the cure. Which basically means Lazarus is back in business for the remaining ten days, because after that…well, let’s just say their bosses won’t have to worry about paying them. The final stretch begins next week with more Leland backstory, so get ready for that I guess.
