OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)Sophia gets told to get her bangs cut and heads to the city, but meets Louis while there.OUR TAKEThings continue to take a slow approach in this show, but this episode made me consider that maybe I was not seeing things the right way. While I would quite enjoy seeing Sophia punching dudes out and fighting monsters and stuff with her new found super strength, I guess it wouldn’t really matter much if I didn’t care about the people doing the punching or being punched. And do I now? Well…not as much as I would like by this point. If I wasn’t being paid to cover this show until the end of its life or mine, I probably would’ve stopped around here since, while it has a bit of a novel premise, it has mostly fallen back on more standard shojo plots and characters, like Sophia being the total smokeshow who for some reason thinks she’s really homely and unattractive but has a good heart and is rewarded for it. But covering it I am, so I have to try and find some way of say something interesting about new episodes…or just kinda rant about stuff until I hit the minimum word count. But luckily, this time I DO have something to say that is kind of interesting, in my opinion.See, while I expected, and kind of hoped (and kind of still hope) that this would be a story about people with animal powers kicking the shit out of each other, it kinda seems it’s more leaning on the struggles of accepting yourself. Naturally, this is shown most in Sophia, who hates that she has this new super strength because it makes her look weird and gets her a lot of bad attention, but as Louis points out, it’s possible that because of her kindness, the Gorilla God found someone to give his blessing because he knew that she would use it the best out of anyone. And so far, it looks like that assessment has been correct, as she’s used opportunities to save or help people rather well. But now, as mentioned, she is gaining more attention because of that power, firstly from those who are jealous about her connection to Louis, but also now people who may want to exploit that power. And perhaps through doing that we’ll get to see some fighting? Maybe? Possibly? I know the budget doesn’t really make it seem like this show would be equipped for it but PLEASE it would really help with the boredom.
