OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)Company 8 escape the battle with the help of an unlikely ally. Later, after Captain Burns’ funeral, Captain Hibana takes a few others to investigate the long destroyed orphanage she and Iris grew up at.OUR TAKEThat wraps up the Obi Rescue arc, with Company 1 now down a Captain and Company fully on the run, though don’t expect those things to impact much on their own. Burns is not the first Captain to die, that being the Company 4 Captain just a few episodes earlier, and he hasn’t been replaced yet, so Burns likely won’t either before the series is over. The main thing this will do is remove a major obstacle for Company 8 and their allies while helping Company 1 (among whom are people who are also allies of 8) to save face and continue working against the White Clad in secret. As for Company 8 being on the run, going by the next couple episodes, that also doesn’t seem to be much of an issue, for reasons that I can only imagine are because Haumea and the White Clad are feeling cocky about not only their plans moving forward, but also the remaining pillars having all gathered. They also instantly clock Moonlight Mask as Captain Benimaru and don’t immediately attack Asakusa for revenge, so…that can only be it, they just think they’re too far ahead to be stopped now. And if they are, we’ll probably find out soon. So, after the last few episodes were non-stop wall to wall fights, this episode begins a string of low action plots, but nonetheless important for what’s coming next. Starting with Hibana and a few other supporting characters getting the spotlight for a bit and going back to check on the mystery of her and Iris’ orphanage burning down all those years ago, with the main revelation being that the fire was the result of deliberate experiments using the Infernal Bugs conducted by their character Sumire, who emerges from the shadows with many secrets to tell! And frankly, we do need a bit of a breather so we can get our energy back up for the big final battle coming in the second half of this season, so this is pretty necessary. We just had a big arc that shook up the status quo considerably, and as we inch closer to the end of the story, things are really only going to get more tense and dire. But before that, there’s still some mysteries yet to be revealed, and things are only going to get darker, so get ready for five more episodes of things…well, being more or less the same with this show, tone-wise.
