English Dub Review: 2.5 Dimensional Seduction “Lili x Miri”

Overview:

Mikari doesn’t get why Okumura and Ririsa love cosplay, but she’s willing to give it a shot if it means winning the heart of the boy she loves.

Our Take:

Look, I know that the “first girl always wins” is a trope that almost always is correct. But Mikari is the best girl by far. I love that she recognizes how similar she and the character Miri are. Miri is in love with Lord Ashford, and it seems like he’s more in love with Liliel. Mikari is in love with Okumura, but he’s in love with “Liliel”. I also loved how Mikari wanted to cosplay as Liliel at first because she wants to be his “waifu for real”. She realized that if she gave the things he loved a chance and showed genuine interest that he might fall in love with her, which was a cute and mature way to look at it.

On the other hand, I do feel bad for Ririsa because she saw Okumura and Mikari bonding and getting closer, and it was obvious she’s starting to get feelings for Okumura, but hasn’t realized it yet. Getting close to him when they broke into the school didn’t do her any favors on that front, that’s for sure.

I did want to mention what I think was a reference to the movie The 40-Year-Old Virgin. If you’ve seen that movie you might know that everyone figures out he’s a virgin because he says that boobs feel like a big bag of sand. Well… Okumura had to help the girls with a wardrobe malfunction, and he thought that he didn’t need to worry because they were just like big bags of sand. A+ reference in my book.
