OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)Haru launches Trillion News with Akari and Kunugi, and the new network faces its first big story: a company’s new phone is exploding when charging.OUR TAKEWe’re closing in on finishing this series, which is why it feels so strange to be in the middle of this arc that is so different from the rest of the show. As mentioned, Trillion Game has gone in depth on other industries before to highlight how the main characters are using them to their advantage, as well as introducing more characters from those fields who end up in Haru and Gaku’s orbit, but this one almost feels a bit TOO different, if that makes sense. It could also be that this is the penultimate episode of the season and, conversely, it feels just like any other arc, despite there only being one episode left. But regardless, that’s where we are, with Haru finally getting his big news network, but immediately facing the strings attached that come with running potentially scandalous stories. Trillion News obviously has to make a big splash and set itself apart from the other networks, so what better way of doing that than talking about a popular phone actually being lethal to charge? I’m not asking that rhetorically, I actually have no idea how a fledgling news station breaks into the industry nowadays, so for all I know there could be something way better.Regardless, this is where they meet their first big obstacle. As it turns out, the company that makes the phone is a big sponsor of the news station that is helping to bank roll Trillion News in the first place, so to run that story is to put their careers on the line, which is not heat they can afford right now. So, now they must weigh their pursuing of journalistic ethics with their desire to stay afloat as a company. Oh, I see, this is the COLLAR of money, as in they’re being held by a leash that’s pulled by their benefactors. I totally thought that was just some Engrish typo and they meant to say “color”. Well, whatever spelling and meaning they meant to do, we’ve only got one episode left to wrap up the series. I don’t really expect some grand finale to everything we’ve followed the past six months, but at the very least, we can expect some closure to this specific arc and probably some hinting at things to come if this show ever gets a second season. And wow, wouldn’t that be some meta commentary of the show all about gaming the system to make a ton of money was the one that didn’t continue. Anyway, see you next week when we close this deal.
