English Dub Review: How I Attended an All-Guy’s Mixer “That Time I Went to a Summer Festival and…”

By Ben Schmidt

Overview:

Hagi invites Kohaku to a summer festival. The other four members of the gang also go to the festival to watch them from the shadows.

Our Take:

We finally got to see Kohaku not in drag. Hagi, of course, is thrilled, but for some reason, he can’t help but imagine her in her drag makeup. I found that a bit odd, but for the most part, it was still a good date for the two. Hagi kept complimenting her, and she couldn’t handle it. She kept thinking he was complimenting her clothes or accessories and not her.

They weren’t alone on this date, technically. Everyone else decided to join them, but only to watch from afar. At this point, it feels like Fuji and Asagi are the two who are the closest to being an actual couple. Asagi is pretty clueless, it seems, when it comes to dating and romantic feelings. He’s your typical “golden retriever” guy and still hasn’t caught on to the fact that Fuji writes adult doujin’s of the yaoi variety. But they get along so well that I think even if he weren’t oblivious, he would probably be a great fit for her. I’m surprised at how slow Tokiko and Suo are going, considering they seem fairly “normal” when it comes to recognizing feelings.
