OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)Obi has been captured and Company 8 is on the run, so Licht reveals his connection to Joker and the team heads into the sewers.OUR TAKEThe flames climb ever higher for Company 8 as we continue where last episode left off, now with the other companies aware of them being traitors (though obviously not buying it for a second). Considering this is supposed to be the beginning of the end, it seems unlikely that there will be a chance for things to go back to “normal”, even for a little bit, but for now the priority is getting back Captain Obi, who is due to be given one of those insects that turns you into an Infernal, one of the fire based monsters the Fire Force usually fights. I mean, in this world, this is unfortunately the fate of many a random passerby, but it’s not something any major character has really been in danger off since it wouldn’t be narratively satisfying. However, we’ve known the White Clad have had the ability to turn people into Infernals deliberately with these bugs, it’s just now this is finally potentially hitting someone we as the audience know well. And with this being the final season, or at least the first part of it, there’s definitely a real chance that Obi gets bugged and becomes an Infernal, leading to the company he founded and raised to put him down like a flaming Old Yeller.Speaking of irreparably changing the status quo and paying off long held story beats, Licht finally reveals he’s been working with Joker. These two have been hinted at working together since the third episode of the first season if I remember correctly, but have both done a bunch of stuff as individuals, with Licht ending up working with Company 8 directly and Joker ending up doing that mission with Burns and Company 7’s Captain Benimaru, so they’ve definitely been busy. But now their connection comes in handy, as well as poses a challenge for Shinra. He’s always wanted to portray himself as a hero, which is why he joined the Fire Force in the first place, but now he’s been branded a traitor for being a hero and must work outside the law. And while it may seem like business as usual since they’re facing the White Clad again, they’re now part of the main Fire Force. Where this fight leads won’t just determine Captain Obi’s fate, but likely the fate of many within the organization. But before that, we gotta have some fights, which kick off next time!
