Overview (Spoilers Below):

After he’s fired from his party of heroes, the 15-year-old Kurt turns to a temp agency for work.

Our Take:

Most moments have guilds constantly underestimating the underdog after firing them based on their “useless” skills.  This is no exception, to no one’s surprise, thanks to this latest OP fantasy anime that highlights the usefulness of a low-level skill, mainly handiwork.  The first episode introduces viewers to its new protagonist, Kurt Rockhans, a self-proclaimed “powerless” and overly generous member of the most potent team, the Flaming Dragon Fang.  Because of his weak abilities, Kurt is only assigned to do housekeeping for the party.  Unfortunately, that isn’t good for them, so the party fired Kurt for being “dead weight” to them.  Yes, my friends, this is one of those types of shows where the high-rank party consists of abusive douchebags who take the weakest member for granted.  I just got over my hatred of Thunder Pike in I Left My A-Rank Party, and now this show arrived with a new S-Rank party for me to despise.

Afterward, the episode didn’t take long to emphasize that Kurt unknowingly has impeccable skills in the temp working business despite being at G-rank.  This was proven when Kurt put cement on the walls in less than three hours and even created magic crystals in the blink of an eye, shocking everyone, including Yulicia.  The problem is that Kurt wasn’t fully aware that his skills were powerful enough to get the repetitive tasks efficiently.  At this point, it’s evident that the show’s humor mainly focuses on everyone’s over-the-top reactions to Kurt’s high-level abilities.  However, the episode didn’t make a good impression with how the humor is represented, especially Yulicia’s reactions.  It also seems to have taken several cues from other anime, with I Parry Everything being the prime suspect regarding Kurt’s generosity and unawareness.  I Parry Everything handled this type of protagonist fairly well, so it would be interesting to see if this show could accomplish that same feat.  However, despite its okay animation and tolerable voice cast, this isn’t the best way to kick off Kurt’s first adventure as an unaware OP “hero”.
