Our Take(Spoliers):
So… I might have misunderstood, but Jinshi said that he used to think the Emperor was his father and has now come to learn that he’s his brother. If that’s true, that could have major implications for the rest of the story. Not only that, but the Emperor was advised to take Maomao as a concubine a couple of times but he refused and instead suggested that Jinshi should so I might have misjudged the Emperor. We haven’t got a whole lot of time with him to be fair, so maybe we will now.
This episode focused on a shrine that used to be used in helping to decide the next Emperor. Since all of the current Emperor’s brothers were dead, he didn’t have to do the ritual. But if you recall, we learned in this episode that Jinshi is his brother, not only that, but with his “concubine’s” help he passed the trial. Concubines were often used to help potential Emperors pass the trial. It was fascinating because Maomao used her knowledge of color blindness to pass the trial. After all, it used colored doors. I love political intrigue and I hope this goes somewhere.
