English Dub Review: Dragon Ball Daima “Legend”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

Goku and the gang meet up with Neva on the original Planet Namek, where he reveals that Gomah is the one who ordered them to be wished into being kids. Vegeta approaches the second Tamagami while in the First Demon World, Arinsu has Marba create another Majin: Majin Duu.

OUR TAKE

Daima continues pushing on and keeping up the momentum as the heroes figure out crucial info about their predicament and the villains continue to work swiftly in the shadows. Specifically, now the main characters know why they were turned into kids, who did it to them, and how to get Dende back, as well as learning from Neva about the history of the Demon Realm’s Dragon Balls and the Tamagami, both of which he created. I may have mentioned it already, but having the balls in the Demon Realm be three instead of seven was a pretty interesting move, as it both cuts down on the search time and gives each search team a chance to stay on even footing. The addition of the Tamagami is also neat since it gives the characters a chance to fight and makes things a bit more interesting than just looking for a ball on a map. People have theorized that Daima is Toriyama’s take on elements of Dragon Ball GT, such as the turning characters into kids, and the Tamagami could be seen as his take on the Shadow Dragons, especially since they were made in-universe to prevent overuse by malicious wishers. If that’s the case, I do wish they had more interesting designs like many of the Shadow Dragons did, but they’re still interesting obstacles and they’re animated pretty well in a fight.

On the bad guy side of things, Arinsu gets another Majin made, this time Duu in addition to Kuu, using what’s left of the bits of Buu she could find. Kuu is proving to be more brain than brawn, while Duu much more resembles Buu in terms of power, physique, and intelligence, actually looking like a green middle form between Fat Buu and Super Buu. Without giving anything away, there was also a lot of speculation surrounding Duu and his connection to Kuu that, let’s just say…didn’t go as some expected. But even with that in mind, he is most definitely a neat double act with Kuu, as we’ll see later. On top of that, he’ll be facing the First Tamagami while Vegeta faces the Second. And speaking of Vegeta, I’m very much looking forward to talking about his fight next week. Partially because it’ll be nice to see him just get a straight up win by himself for the first time in awhile (I think the last one was during the Universe 6 Tournament in Super?), but also for…a specific reason. If you’ve been keeping up with this show as it aired the sub, you’ll likely know what that is, but if not, come back next time so we can get into it!
