OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)With Yuri dead, Shiro wanders the snow in despair with the newborn Rin and Yukio. Meanwhile, Lucifer makes a final play.OUR TAKEWe finally wrap up the last bit of conflict and start moving things toward the end…or I guess it’s the beginning? Either way, the arc is close to wrapping up, as Shiro faces a yeti that is NOT possessed by Satan, I got that mixed up from last time. Probably because it had Satan’s long flowing locks and glowing blue eyes and, oh yeah, THIS SHOW HAS NEVER SHOWN US A YETI BEFORE. But whatever, it’s taken care of, Shiro decides to live for the sake of the boys and in Yuri’s memory, and we’ll get to see him slowly morph into the guy we met in the first episode of the show over the next couple episodes. Back at the base, Lucifer decides to just say “fuck everything” and starts killing a bunch of people, only for Mephisto and Shiemi’s ancestor to stop him and turn him into rocks or something. How that goes from him being in that state to having a somewhat workable body in the story’s present day is anyone’s guess. Everyone who survived (RIP to Shiro’s other prequel friend) slowly recovers from The Blue Night and starts to pick up the pieces, except for Satan who is trapped back in Gehenna and is just a spiteful petty bitch who kills Yuri even when she’s already dead and trying to tell him how much she still loves him.I would say they wasted a chance to flesh out this version of Satan, which they did, but of what little we know about him from his only appearance in the very beginning of the story, we barely had anything to go on anyway. Still, after several episodes of him being an unspeaking flame and then getting a body and going through a very quick evolution of the mind, you would think he would have gained more from the experience than “man, having a body is great!”, but NOPE! Even his supposed love of Yuri is basically an afterthought now. But aside from all of that, I actually quite liked this episode, mainly because of how it showed Shiro’s willingness to keep living in order to look after two kids he could easily abandon, and how everyone else pulled together to keep what would go on to be a legendarily bad night from getting even worse. But we still have two episodes left, so as long as you don’t mind the lack of action, join us next time and the time after that to see how this season finally wraps up!
