Overview (Spoilers Below): Elgite the Ochre Haze sets out to steal enchanted swords while Mestelexil fights another golem.
Our Take: This week’s episode introduces us to another slate of new Shuras, which seem to be as formidable as Linaris based on the descriptions I read. The first of the two is Toroa the Awful, a masked swordsman who possesses enchanted swords long before the Demon King’s rule. With how profound these weapons are, there’s always someone willing enough to claim them as their own. That includes Elgite the Ochre Haze, who’s tasked with finding the swords for weapons marketing, but his mission becomes short-lived after confronting the entity resembling Toroa the Awful. However, the flashback shows that Toroa was killed by Alus the Star Runner four years ago, with his son vowing to retrieve his sword from Alus. While it doesn’t clarify whether the entity was Toroa’s spirit or his son taking the mantle, the episode’s first half is another example of making a good first impression regarding the character’s imposing aura and strength. The second half then showcased another Shura or, in this case, golem, Mestelexil the Box of Desperate Knowledge, created by Kiyazuna the Axle to prevent the incoming calamity. Mestelexil is proven to be indestructible due to its regeneration abilities and its psychotic persona. However, it’s also revealed that its unstoppable power comes from the Word Arts, similar to Kia. From the looks of the dynamic between Kiyazuna and Mestelexil, it seems like the show is attempting to recapture the depth of the master/student relationship from the first season with Kia and Elea. It’s hard to say whether this strategy would work the second time, but it may have the chance to do so, especially with the deadly particle storm on its way that could test Mestelexil’s non-breakable design.
