OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)Now officially going out, Ganta and Isaki get the house ready for their friends to come look do their Astronomy Training Camp.OUR TAKEAs has been the case for this show for the majority of its run and my coverage of said run, there is not a whole lot that happens in this episode, plot-wise. I have long come to accept that this series runs off of vibes as the emotional character arcs form through subtle details that build on top of each other towards less of a big fireworks explosion of catharsis and more of a gentle breeze celebrating the small changes that can happen in our collective youths. Unfortunately, my job is to come up with several hundred words to discuss each individual soft breeze, which has made my experience covering this show pretty dang irritating as I struggle to come up with something to say that I have not already said. And as we are at the penultimate episode, that amount of unsaid things is nearing its limit. But thankfully, we have reached a major turning point in the story, as last episode Isaki finally kissed Ganta straight on the lips, cementing their mutual feelings for each other and taking them out of the talking stage to the actually dating stage. This is as much of a plot development as we’re going to get here, so we may as well savor it.The time right after a dating relationship has been confirmed mutual is a magical time, or so I’m told. My only real experience with it was with someone who had apparently thought I was flirting with her for months, which did not make for the best foundation of a relationship when it did actually start. But to get back to this particular one, it’s clear that things have changed in a significant way, even if it may seem at a glance like nothing has changed at all. Suddenly, the tiniest things that could have been riddled with possible ambiguity are now gestures of comfort and affection. Conversations become more nonsensical but simultaneously become overflowing with extra meaning. And suddenly a door that neither of you was sure existed has been flung wide open, with countless possibilities that are as thrilling as they are terrifying. Oh, and also all of their friends immediately knew they had started going out because they were all aware they had feelings for each other and were rooting from a distance. So yay, Gansaki has officially become canon and now we have one more episode left. Happy days are here indeed.
