OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)While still on the voyage to the United States, Senku and company try out a bunch of weird drinks, train a bit, and try to find the sun to navigate during the rain.OUR TAKEThe season premiere for Dr. Stone Science Future didn’t really hit the ground running like I was hoping, but it was at least a bit of light fun. So, it was my next hope that, with the fluff out of the way, we could properly get things started the very next week and…no, that still didn’t happen, as this episode is also treading water, and I’m not just saying that because the characters are on a ship. It’s just another twenty minutes of hanging around and doing random stuff, except at least this time it’s more varied than only playing poker. And I uh…don’t really know what to think of this? Like it’s fun and all, I can’t say I wasn’t entertained to some degree, and Dr. Stone has its own unique brand of comedy mixed with science facts that I have enjoyed since it started. But they’re usually also paired with some plot progression or character development and this time, for some odd goddamn reason, that is not what we’re getting out of this episode. Well, okay, if I’m being completely honest, there is ONE new bit of info that feels important and may end up being crucial to know for some point in the future.Matsukaze, the samurai who lived on the Petrification centuries prior to everyone else, finally explains a bit about his past besides the fact that his master looked like Ginro. Apparently, back in his time was the first time the petrification devices arrived on the surface, and because humans are kinda cruel sometimes, they were immediately turned into weapons. Matsukaze’s master got caught in the crossfire and he had to cut the guy’s arm off to keep him from turning into a statue, but by then it was too late and he died cursing the world. Matsukaze eventually was petrified himself but made sure to leave a mark on his arm to try and communicate to anyone who found him what caused this in the first place. And now he’s with a bunch of people who both know how to use these devices for good and are going to go kick the butt, literal or otherwise, of the beings who put them on Earth in the first place. Or at least I hope they make some progress on that within the next episode because otherwise I’m gonna start getting just a little bit peeved!
