Overview:

Legoshi deals with the fallout of his fight with Riz and becomes a known devourer after eating Louis’ leg. Louis grapples with his familial expectations and desires, and Haru finds her place at University.

Our Take:

When you write a story about a wolf falling in love with a rabbit there are going to be questions. For instance, what happens when they decide to start a family? Well, wonder no longer because this season introduces a villain that answers those questions. It feels a little late in the game to introduce someone that I would consider the “main” villain but I think Melon will be a fan favorite. He reminds me of The Joker if The Joker was a gazelle mixed with a leopard.

It creates some interesting conflict in Legoshi because he could be looking at his future. Being a mixed animal made life so hard for Melon that he resorted to being a serial killer. Legoshi has to think about that potentially being a problem if Haru and he ends up having children. I would like to think that having dealt with this would change how seriously he takes parenthood but perhaps we will see.

I have to say I’m not a fan of splitting final seasons into parts. Here’s to hoping that we don’t get the Attack on Titan treatment and we get like four parts with some movies. I don’t want a rushed ending by any means but I want a dragged-out one even less. If it’s to give the animators a break so then I’m all for it but something tells me the studios aren’t that altruistic.

CGI in anime is very hit-or-miss for me and I would say this is a hit for the most part. Sometimes when they do close-ups we get some more traditional animation and it leads me to wish that was how the entire show was but after all this time I’ve come to enjoy the animation of this series.

This was one of the first anime where I got to hear Jonah Scott, since then he’s voiced some of my favorite characters. I don’t know if I would go so far as to say this was where he got his “start” but it will be hard to think of him and not think of Legoshi going forward.

I like where the story is going and the villain is compelling. Not a fan of the cliffhanger ending but it does leave me anticipating part two. Let’s hope that we don’t have to wait too long for the next part.
