OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)The old man with one eye is the king’s brother and more schoolgirl shenanigans.OUR TAKEMerry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah! This week brings us basically a repeat of last week where random girls try getting Alicia caught in a scandal and then tattling to Liz, then Liz tries to understand what the hell happened, but when Alicia is proven innocent, she then decides to stir the shit anyway because that’s what her villainess persona would apparently do. Basically, if you’ve ever dealt with someone being a total asshole in a game of Dungeons and Dragons and then try to excuse it by saying “that’s just what my character would do bro”, that’s Alicia in a nutshell. She can’t even let a situation go in her favor without going on to fuck it up by committing to this bit that literally no one else around her likes or wants, and at this point it’s only making things worse by exacerbating Liz’s weird powers. Frankly, if something horrible happens now, it’s basically her fault because she can’t get the fuck over herself and simply talk to Liz like a human being. What a great subversion of a hero! Like holy shit, we only have three more episodes of this, how could it possibly get worse at this point.Anyway, the far more interesting bit of the episode is, unsurprisingly, something that has nothing to do with Alicia or Liz, but the backstory of Old Man Will, who reveals himself to be the long lost older brother of the king, Duke’s father, who lost his ability to use his powerful magic at a young age. Once his half brother was born and became king, things seemed to go well at first as Will tried to be supportive and come up with policies that would best benefit the kingdom, but then one day his brother’s attitude seemed to change rather suddenly. Soon after, Will was accused of attempting to assassinate the king, was blinded, and then dumped in the village Alicia found him in. He suspects the king’s mother, who was brought in specifically to have a new heir after Will lost his powers (and also his mother died in childbirth) may have been manipulating the king…but also she hasn’t been a character in this story this entire time so hopefully they’re not thinking of bringing her in now. But whatever, there’s just a few more weeks of this to endure and I think I can handle that at least. Happy Holidays to you and yours!
