Overview (Spoilers Below): Okarun and the girls try to clear up some misunderstandings with their classmates. Later, the aquatic creature reappears before Momo and Aira.
Our Take: Momo and the others have finally escaped the Serpoians’ trap, but it did come with the cost of being humiliated and naked in public. It did lead to one of the manga’s most controversial panels being fully animated for every fan to see, so I guess I can take that as good news regarding the show’s quality and faithfulness. However, even after their “little” escapade, there are still more problems for the group before the first season draws to a close. One of them occurs following the conclusion of the previous episode, in which the students misunderstood Momo and Okarun’s actions as “sexual”. Although, I’m not going to lie. That was a hilariously awkward way of ending an episode involving aliens and demons. Amid those misunderstandings, we see that Okarun finally has the time to explain to Momo what really occurred between him and Aira and the reason for his secrecy. However, the real piece of development in this episode comes from Aira, who admits to her loyal fans that she lied about Momo being a slut. While Aira maintains her egotistical demeanor in front of Momo due to her Messiah complex, this moment reveals a deeper side to Aira, showing that she is more than just a “mean girl” persona. It may not come close to Aira’s past in “To a Kinder World”, but it’s still a surefire sign of Aira learning to put others’ needs ahead of her own, including Momo’s. The episode also featured the return of the Mantis Shrimp alien from the previous episode, but thankfully, he wasn’t here for a rematch. He was on Earth to find a cure for his son’s disease, which happens to be cow milk. This is another moment that effectively showcased its outlandish humor and style but also provided enough empathy to highlight the humanity of some of the show’s antagonistic creatures. However, based on the episode’s conclusion, the aliens targeting him are now the least of Okarun’s problems.
