Overview:
Rin and Sae’s sibling match goes to Sae as he takes the ball. But Niko, Karasu, Otoya, and Chigiri set up another goal chance, and Rin scored despite shooting on his non-dominant leg. At 1-2, the U-20s are finally ready to go all out.
Isagi, Bachira, and Chigiri’s families are happy to see their sons on the field. Meanwhile, we get a glimpse of what transpired between Rin and Sae. Sae is about to quit the match, but he decides to stay when Shidou is thrown into the fray.
Our Take:
If it wasn’t for the poor CGI this anime would be one of the more hyped shows of the season. I love a good sports anime because they manage to hype things up to eleven. It’s nice seeing all the Blue Lock boys getting some time to shine but it still feels like Isagi isn’t the main character anymore. I have a feeling he will get a goal in the second half of the game, he better at least, or else I’m going to lose interest in him as a character.
It was nice getting to see family members of the boys interact with each other. Bachira’s mom is exactly what you would think she’d be like. It was quite the stroke of luck that she ended up sitting behind Isagi’s parents since they’d become friends during Blue Lock.
I expected a little more out of Sae and Rin’s backstory. They grew up as friends and Rin was okay being second best to Sae, but then Sae decided to switch positions, and that upset Rin. So now Rin wants to ruin Sae’s dream, that’s the whole reason he plays soccer.
I’m sure the second half is going to play out with the U-20 team kicking their ass for a while because I have yet to see a sports anime where a team got crushed in a match that an episode focused on. I don’t like Shidou as a character so I hope he won’t have a big role to play but I think we know that he will. Let’s just hope he gets put in his place fast.
