OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)Alicia continues to gather her intel and resources, but learns there may be more going on with Liz’s strange powers than she first thought.OUR TAKEWe continue to develop the story as it enters what would normally be the time period the game it’s based on would take place. However, just like the other show I reviewed with this very same premise, it is now becoming clear to Alicia that her methods of playing her character are starting to impact the course of events that she’s used to. Not only are some characters popping up who were never there before, like the two kids she has now made her underlings, but some characters are straying from the paths they were originally made for. For one, one of her brothers, Henri, may be quite smitten with Liz, but has also noticed that the fanatical devotion everyone around her feels is rather odd and unnatural. As noted last episode, there seems to be an almost cult like obsession with Liz as she gets to know more people, with her winning several groups of students over to her cause overnight. It at first seemed like she was doing this without her knowledge as she continues to take Alicia’s words into consideration even when her fans despise Alicia outright, but now I’m not so sure this is accidental anymore. My first thought was that maybe this was something unintentional that Liz was doing because she is The Saint, a chosen one type figure who can control every type of magic and thus has a rather large reputation behind her even if she didn’t mean to use it. Perhaps she and Alicia would team up to face a greater threat that was using Liz’s growing fame as a cover for their crimes. However, this series really seems to want to flip the ideas of hero and villain on their head (though apparently not in a way that hasn’t been done at least a few times already) so it’s also entirely possible that Liz really is forming a cult of people and wants Alicia to be a part of that. She currently seems to like saying things and ideas that are well meaning if a bit naive, which Alicia has called her out for, but she also hasn’t taken any offense to that. As for Alicia’s kidnapping at the end of the episode, that could still be anyone doing that, especially if Liz’s fans have gone rogue to please their glorious leader. Something to consider for next week as the true culprit is revealed.
