OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)With the matter of picking one of the sisters as a bride now revealed, Yuna tries driving Uryu off with chores, only to find he can handle them all. Later, the sisters meet Dr. Anekoji, Uryu’s guardian who encouraged him to stay at the shrine.OUR TAKEWe’ve already introduced the premise and had all the main characters interact to get the dynamics down, ending with the reveal of the marriage deal. Now that Uryu represents not just a disruption of their present, but their future as a possible husband or brother-in-law, there is increased resistance to his presence. Mainly by Yuna though, as Yae and Asahi don’t seem all that bothered by the idea, or they just aren’t really considering it since it’s something so far off. Either way, Yuna’s attempts to force Uryu out only go on to prove how capable he is, and therefore how much of a catch as a husband he’d probably be to. So, while it does feel a bit rudimentary, it does at least accomplish the task of helping us to get to know the characters a bit better. Uryu is a bit of a bookworm but he’s capable in many other aspects and has a clear goal he is working towards: becoming a doctor. Likewise, even if it’s said offhand and isn’t given a whole lot of focus, we also know that Yae is a bit of an artist, so much so that she has her art supplies strewn out around her bedroom, making it a bit of a pigsty. The second half gives us further detail on Uryu’s background and motives through meeting Dr. Anekoji, a doctor at the orphanage Uryu once lived after his mother passed away. Losing his mother (and presumably his father) and meeting Anekoji is what inspired him to pursue medicine, and following her example throughout his life made him the principled man he is today. And while it’s not the most enlightening moment, we get a bit more about each of the girls through how they attempt to help with folding paper cranes for patients. Asahi lacks experience, Yuna takes too long, and Yae gets the job done but goes a bit extra. Meanwhile, Uryu completes the task with ease and even makes a small mountain of cranes, several of every color. And we see the main point of contention between him, someone who bases his beliefs on realism, and her who bases them on her spiritual faith. Paper cranes are most known for helping the sick recover, though while Uryu doesn’t believe they will do so, he does think it will inspire the doctors to try harder by seeing just how much each kid has worked. Anyway, next we’ll see Uryu get one on one time with each of the sisters through proper pre-marriage meetings. Maybe then we’ll get some sort of hint at who will be tying the knot, as the title has suggested. Because surely it’ll just be ONE sister, right?
